i think i would have liked to live in fatehpur sikri in 1600, but only if i was educated. i know people would argue in favour of modern women's rights and question wanting to live in the 17th century as a woman, but i think that very little has changed if you keep the role of social class in perspective. it's sad, but lower-class women in south asia today are as oppressed as they would have been in 1600, and upper class women had roughly the same amount of agency and power as they do today (which is not a lot, but still more than many have).
this is unfortunate, but i still would have liked to live during akbar's reign, and i would have liked to know people in his court.
i wouldn't mind wearing cotton gharaaras around my house either.
