that it is impossible to "know the truth" about the past because there is no such thing as one truth about the past. i think it's about time i figured this out and now i can stop feeling like i was cheated out of something in my education.
of course, there are still outright lies as well as deeply problematic suggestions about history which i still have a right to be indignant about, but im not. all of history is beginning to look like the chaotic, tragic comedy it really is.
now i can continue to research in peace without agonizing over what "the truth" really is and appreciating the past for context instead of truth value.
wow, i really do think of nothing but what im reading lately. warning: next topic is about what's bothering me in yet another class.
